Behaviour Change

Behaviour change is an often-stated goal for outdoor learning, but how does learning science outside support behaviour change? As practioners we are interested in practical approaches to behavioural change and their potential impact on learners.

Through commissioning research and reflecting on our own practice, we realised that an understanding of the factors affecting whether experience and learning are effective is very important. Furthermore, we wanted to investigate what factors affected whether the learning has an impact on participants' behaviour and how it contributes to behavioural change. This topic is very broad and therefore we offer an overview of theories of behavioural change that affect outdoor learning to show a variety of perspectives on the topic with links to sources of information.
